With the 2026 Hollywood Bowl schedule finally dropping, it’s starting to sink in that we are entering the final summer of the Gustavo Dudamel era. 17 years ago, he was the wunderkind who breathed new life into the LA Phil; now, he’s heading East to take over the New York Philharmonic, and the Bowl is giving him the send-off he deserves.

The LA Phil is billing this season as a “Love Letter to Los Angeles,” and the “Celebrating Gustavo at the Bowl” series (August 20–23) looks like a perfect summary of his impact.

    The Highlights:

Beethoven’s Ninth (Aug 20): A classic Dudamel staple, but this time featuring YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) and a world premiere from Michael Giacchino with lyrics by Amanda Gorman.

The Foo Fighters Collab (Aug 22): This is the one everyone will be fighting for tickets for—the Foos backed by the full weight of the LA Phil and YOLA.

Musical Legacy Night (Aug 23): A genre-spanning retrospective of the last 17 years, covering everything from Latin pop to heavy symphonic works.

Beyond the music, it’s cool to see the venue itself evolving with him. The stage has been officially renamed the John Williams Stage, and that new L-Acoustics 3D sound system with 30 surround speakers is supposed to debut this summer.

Is anyone else planning to hit the subscription sale in March? It feels like these August shows are going to be the toughest tickets in the city. How do you guys think the “Dudamel Effect” has changed the culture of the Bowl since he started in 2009?
